Monopole Ground Plane Formulas

Here is a formula for a quarter wave monopole antenna:

Table of Definition

f = Frequency in MHz (Megahertz)
l = Quarter wavelength in feet

l = 234 / f

Here is a formula for a half wave monopole antenna:

Table of Definition

f = Frequency in MHz (Megahertz)
l = Half wavelength in feet

l = 468 / f

Here is a formula for a 5/8 wave monopole antenna:

Table of Definition

f = Frequency in MHz (Megahertz)
l = 5/8 wavelength in feet

l = 585 / f

Here is a formula for a 3/4 wave monopole antenna:

Table of Definition

f = Frequency in MHz (Megahertz)
l = 3/4 wavelength in feet

l = 702 / f

All the ground plane element portion of the monopole antenna are at least a quarter wavelength for a 37 ohm match that would require a matching system in order to match the antenna from a 50 ohm system. But all the ground plane elements portion are around 0.69 times the length of a quarter wavelength in order get close to a 50 ohm match.
